"Love, Lavender"

By Jordan Stoner

My dearest Jennifer,

I cannot begin to tell you how much I’ve cared for you since we first met. I held you in my hands on countless occasions. Your scent filled my nose with a bouquet unmatched by any other. The taste of you brought me to my knees time and again. It wasn’t always sunshine and love songs for us though. We had some tough times, some moments of indiscretion when you weren’t the only one I held. I would have fleeting thoughts of you as I tasted another on my lips, but since you were nowhere to be found, I just couldn’t help myself.

Please do not be sad or mad, or worse, indifferent. I need to let you know how I feel about you, even though we can no longer be together. I’ve been seeing someone on a regular basis and he’s been trying to get me to forget you. You’ve made me happy and, I find it hard to give you up. I want you to know that I’ll love you forever. You’ll always be one of my fondest memories. We can acknowledge one another when we pass, but please do not try to track me down. It would be too difficult to leave you behind if we made an effort to stay too close.

I’ll never forget the way you made me feel. Remember me always as the man you first met and not the woman I’ve chosen to become.

Love, Lavender
